Hello, Summer!

    Hello there, my friends!~
I have sneaked into the art room tonight to write you while the baby sleeps. Little Robbie is a sweet, sweet baby but long naps? Not his things. After about 20 minutes, his little eyes pop open and it’s “where’s my mama?!”
Miraculously, I have been doing a little bit of painting, and working on some other little projects and also thinking about Christmas art. Yep, Christmas art!
In a decidedly unChristmasy turn of events— we had a festival and picnic at our church and there was a real honest-to-goodness May Pole that the kids got to dance around and weave the ribbons around the pole. Then man leading the dance told them when they were finished, that if anyone touched the pole once it was wrapped, they’d be kissed by the end of the day. You should have seen those kids scramble!

Something else that was really fun was that my good friend Patricia was able to go on the trip of a lifetime— she got to go tour Tasha Tudor’s house and garden! I was so excited for her, and of course made her tell me all the details. Its definitely on my list of things I’d like to do some day! I just need to get myself back up to New England!

Well, I think that is all I have to share for the moment. I hope to get some good work done on my painting (it’s got knitting in it!) so that I can share it with you very soon!~

Hope you are well and having a great start to your summer!~

  1. Ohhhh how we LOVE to read at our house! Sounds like a great idea to while away the hours of the summer with a good book (well…and of course knitting too!!) 🙂 We have probably read \”Little House..\” about a hundred times (and followed with the rest of the series…and then the OTHER series!!) but who can ever read it TOO much? 🙂

  2. I would love to read along with you! I've been meaning to read that book to my kiddos and this will give me a good excuse to get it done. :)Also, I wanted to tell you that I found you through the give-away you did on Carrots for Michaelmas and I have fallen in love with your artwork. Several of your prints are pinned on my Wishlist board and I hope to buy one of your Madonnas when we move to our new home. Gorgeous work!

  5. Your children's book club idea sounds like fun. Summertime has always been a great time for reading books and enjoying some timeless favorites! I do love that new woven tote you purchased. It is perfect for carting around various current projects and books. Coming home today from low 60s and windy during the day to 90 and getting humid. While I was gone, summer just came in and took over!!

  6. Your flowers are so beautiful! I love the deep pink colors with the other color contrasts. Glad you are enjoying your little taste of the Netherlands too. Do I dare admit I never read Little House on the Prairie? My Jessica read and enjoyed the entire series and recently took them back home with her. So, I will soon get myself a copy from the library. Better late than never!!!

  7. The Maypole looks like so much fun! I see them online this time of year, but I've never done one. It looks like a great time for kids (and adults too!) It's been fun chatting about the tour with you- but next time you have to go…it would be more fun to go together! Get back to New England as soon as possible! 🙂

  8. I have many fond memories of dancing around a May Pole in elementary school. It is actually harder than it looks to get it all criss crossed correctly. I have been following along in your instagram with the new painting and looking forward to seeing it all completed. Christmas? What about Halloween? Inquiring minds obsessed with fall want to know! LOL!!

  11. The Maypole event looks wonderful! What a fun thing for children (and adults) to do. I have seen them online this time of year, but have never had the fun of dancing around one. Might need to put that on my to-do list next year! Next time I do the Tasha Tudor tour you have to come with me! It would be more fun if you were there too. 🙂

  12. Hmmmm, I entered a reply yesterday so maybe your site is deleting them? I love the photos of the May Pole dance. I remember doing those every year in elementary school . It is harder than it looks to get the pattern to come out correct! Maybe Patricia can send you some photos from Tasha's garden and you could post here for us? I bet it was beautiful!!
