Summer Days

Goodness, it has been a bit since I’ve updated here! Life has been very, very busy. But really good. We have embarked upon a new adventure of having both kids home doing homeschool– which means this spring I finished up guiding my kids through 3rd grade and 10th grade! On top of that, I accepted a position as a parish catechist in our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, which has also kept me very busy.

All that to say– painting has taken a little bit of a back seat as I adjust to new calls upon my time. But this summer I am determined to find more time at my painting table, and arrange my schedule more intentionally for creative time when we resume schoolwork in August. We’ve had lots of fun in the past few months, though— and one adventure was visiting a local lavender farm and being able to pick our own lavender bundles one bright and beautiful morning:

My daughter and I went out and cut a few bundles to take home with us to dry. They look so sweet just hanging in place, but I hope to be able to craft with them as well. Their scent is so lovely– we are big fans of lavender! They are just so old fashioned, simple and sweet when used as decoration, or stored in a drawer with special items.

I will be back soon to share a new painting that I just completed and think you’ll enjoy! It’s all full of flowers! I am looking forward to more painting and creating….I’ve missed it! But life is always in cycles and seasons, and our schooling adventures needed a lot of attention as we made that huge pivot within our family.

I also started a Substack newsletter that I will send out ever so often, if you’d like to check it out. I have used instagram for so many years to share my work on social media, but I feel like it’s starting to wane. In order to keep in touch with friends I’ve met over the years, I have started the newsletter- but will also post here with more long form writing and updates. Check it out and subscribe, if you’d like to!

Thanks so much, and I hope you’re having a wonderful summer-

Take Joy!

  1. That lavender is so pretty. I’ve tried to plant it three times here in Missouri and it never comes back. I’ll figure something else. I’m determined! I need to sign up for your newsletter now. You’re right, Instagram is waning.
